| Materials Checklist for Presentation to Review Board
The Historic Preservation Review Board requires the following visual information in order to conduct its review. Materials should be submitted at the time of a permit application, but in no case later than 10 days prior to the Board meeting at which the project is reviewed. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide adequate photographs, architectural plans, and other materials to enable the Board to understand the proposal and evaluate its impact on the surroundings. The Board may defer cases if presentation materials are not sufficient to evaluate the proposal.
The Board's Rules of Procedure (10 DCMR Sec. 2608) require the following:
- Comprehensive exterior photographs of the building, structure, or site in question
- Submit good quality photographs (Polaroids are usually insufficient)
- Always include a photograph of the front of the building
- Include photographs showing full elevations
- Clearly show the area where work is to be performed
- For window or door replacement, include close-ups of existing windows or doors
- In the case of a building or structure in a historic district, photographs of the immediate neighborhood
- Show streetscapes and the surrounding context
- Label photographs to indicate what is shown, and its relationship to the affected property
- Architectural drawings of sufficient completeness to indicate exterior design of the building or structure
- Include floor plans, elevations, and a site plan
- Draw all plans to scale
- Show all existing features and existing conditions
- Include notes indicating existing and proposed work, materials, and other relevant information
For large projects, additional information may be required. Applicants should consult with Historic Preservation Office staff for further information on presentation materials. |
